RBO Build vs WordPress
WordPress powers a huge share of the web. It can do almost anything, with thousands of themes and plugins, but someone has to choose, set up, update and secure it all. RBO Build is narrower on purpose: plain, fast small-business websites, hosted and looked after for you.
At a glance
How they differ.
| WordPress | RBO Build | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Open-source software; you add hosting, a theme and plugins (or use a hosted service) | A complete service: hosting, domains, an on-page editor and upkeep |
| How you build | Themes, page builders and plugins | Upload a website you made, or start from a finished template |
| Upkeep | Updates to WordPress, themes and plugins, security and backups | Handled for you; versions and one-click undo; health checks |
| Speed and security | Depends on your hosting and plugins | Plain, lightweight pages with nothing to log into on the website itself |
| Flexibility | Almost unlimited, with plugins or custom code | Focused on small-business websites |
| Cost | Hosting plus any paid themes, plugins and someone's time | From US$19 a month, hosting included |

When WordPress is the better choice
- You need a complex or custom site: memberships, large stores, bespoke integrations.
- You have (or want to be) a developer, or have one on call.
- You want to own and control every part of the software and hosting.
When RBO Build is the better choice
- You've made a website with Claude, ChatGPT or another tool and want it online exactly as you made it, with hosting, domains and enquiries handled.
- You'd like a finished website to start from, with your details already in it, and to change words, photos, fonts and colours by clicking on the page.
- You make websites for other businesses and want client dashboards, your own branding and client payments built in, with predictable pricing per website in US dollars.
- You're tired of plugin updates, security scares and slow pages on simple business websites.
WordPress is the right tool when you need its flexibility and have the skills or budget to look after it. For a typical small-business website, RBO Build removes most of that work.
Questions
Good to know.
Can I move a WordPress website to RBO Build?
If you can export it as static files (for example with a static-site export plugin), you can upload the zip. Otherwise, reuse your texts and photos with one of our templates, or make a new website with an AI.
Can I install plugins?
No. RBO Build websites don't use plugins, which is part of why they're fast and low-maintenance. Common needs like contact forms, spam protection, SEO settings and Google Analytics are built in.
